Ingredients
2 golden delicious apples
1/4 cup of flour
1/4 cup of cornstarch
1 egg
1 teaspoon of sesame oil
1 cup of sugar
oil for deep frying
toasted sesame seeds
Directions
Peel and core the apples and cut into 8 wedges. Combine the flour, cornstarch, egg and sesame oil in a small bowl.
Mix to form a thick, smooth batter. Heat oil in a deep fryer or wok.
Put the apples in the batter. Remove fruit from the batter with a slotted spoon and drain off excess.
Deep fry for about 2 minutes. Drain on paper towels.
Repeat until you have fried all of the fruit.
Just before serving set up a bowl of ice water.
Heat the oil and deep fry the fruit again and drain. Put the sugar, sesame seeds and 2 tablespoons of oil from fryer into a pot.
Heat until the sugar carmelizes. Add the fruit and stir gently. Take them out and place in ice water.
Drain and serve at once.
