“Music is probably the only real magic I have encountered in my life. There's not some trick involved with it. It's pure and it's real. It moves, it heals, it communicates and does all these incredible things.” Tom Petty
On my quest to bring back the innocence of the Christmas season, I know that music must be incorporated and is a key component to sparking renewal, stimulating the senses, evoking memories, and restoring JOY.
As soon as we wake up in the morning, I have Christmas music playing in the background. I choose not to get upset when the kids seem not to notice and have their own music and/or YouTube videos blasting or sometimes they are video chatting with friends – it’s all OK. It’s their rhythm and I know that the sweet melodies of the season are starting their day off right.
So another thing I’ve decided to do is text my kids (once!) throughout their day with a link to a YouTube Christmas carol and/or song. Mix in some Christmas carols with snazzy tunes – Destiny Child’s Christmas album is one of my favorite – it has some songs they can dance to as they rush to math class humming it’s beat.
Here’s some songs that jazz me up and yet bring peace to my soul –
O Holy Night
Come on Ring Those Bells by Evie Tornquist
Silent Night
Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer
Jingle Bells
O Christmas Tree
Santa Claus is Coming to Town
What are some of your family’s favorites?
